What NIEHS Does

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is one of the largest research agencies dedicated to using environmental sciences to understand human disease and to improve human health.

NIEHS seeks to reduce the human illness that results from natural and human-made environmental exposures — chemicals, metals, radiation and other factors in the air, water, land and construction.

The vision of the NIEHS is to provide global leadership for innovative research that improves the health of people and communities.
